In an unfair court trial in Russia, Rietumu Bank may lose assets worth 16 million euros

On 2 December 2025, the Moscow Arbitration Court examined a civil case related to the claim of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia against Rietumu Banka and other persons. The court of first instance has decided to satisfy the claim of the Prosecutor General’s Office. The Bank’s regulatory capital may decrease by approximately EUR 4 million.

Given that this is a judgment of a court of first instance, the Bank will appeal it in accordance with the procedure prescribed by law, defending fairness and its legitimate interests.

Rietumu Banka’s activities in the territory of Russia have always been lawful and in compliance with regulatory enactments.

The Bank will assess all further actions in detail after receiving the full judgment and familiarising itself with its text.

The amount of the expected loss is the value of the real estate owned by Rietumu Banka’s subsidiary in Russia, which is 16 million euros.

In recent years, in cooperation with the regulator, Rietumu Banka has made all the necessary capital adjustments and provisions for the remaining assets in Russia. As a result of the preventive measures taken, the impact of this judgment on the Bank’s regulatory capital will be insignificant – it will decrease by 4 million euros.

Thus, any outcome of the case will not affect the Bank’s daily operations, implementation of its further strategy, or compliance with regulatory requirements. The Bank’s capital adequacy and liquidity ratios will remain at a high level, exceeding the regulatory minimums.

Rietumu Banka – as it is now – will remain the largest locally owned bank in Latvia and will continue its development and growth.
