The Competition Council has approved the merger of SIA Valmiermuižas alus and AS Cēsu alus. With this decision, the accession of Valmiermuižas alus to the Cēsu alus corporate group will be completed within the next month, informs Valmiermuižas alus.
It has already been reported that, in order to take a decision, the Competition Council needed the opinion of industry representatives. Taking into account the Council’s decision, it can be concluded that the industry has not raised any significant objections.
The company promises that Valmiermuižas alus will continue to operate as an independent brewery, continuing to brew beer in Valmiermuiža, preserving its original recipes and quality standards in the brewing of beer and non-alcoholic beverages. The current owner of Valmiermuižas alus, Aigars Ruņģis, will ensure the transfer of experience and knowledge in order to preserve the brewery’s values.
“The decision of the Competition Council allows us to continue working on joint development plans. We highly value the work of the ‘Valmiermuižas alus’ team and, by joining forces, we will strengthen the position of ‘Valmiermuižas alus’ both in Latvia and in export markets. Our cooperation is based on deep respect for beer brewing and tasting traditions, as well as a desire to jointly create sustainable growth for the local beer industry. The ‘Valmiermuižas alus’ brand takes its place at the top of the Cēsis brewery family as the highest quality festive table beer. By joining forces, we can now offer all beer consumer segments, and everyone individually, beer brewed in Latvia that is suitable for the most diverse situations,” says Cēsu alus Chair of the Board Evija Grīnberga.
“The most valuable work done for the good of Latvia is that which is accomplished with love and respect for the traditions and culture of one’s land. I am truly proud of what the Valmiermuiža family has achieved in shaping beer culture in Latvia. ‘Valmiermuižas alus’ is being entrusted to good hands. I am convinced that, by joining forces with the largest brewery in Latvia, the work we have begun will successfully continue and ever new, expressive beer flavours will be created in Valmiermuiža, honouring our traditions,” adds A. Ruņģis.
Although the volume of beer produced in Latvia in the first 10 months of 2025 has decreased by 7.5%, Valmiermuižas alus has closed the year with good results – the volume of beer produced and sold in 2025 has grown by 2.5%, turnover has increased by 5%, reaching 10.5 million euros, exports have grown by 12%, and the sale of non-alcoholic beer – by 50%.
