1 of 1000: An innovative Latvian technology company joins a prestigious European programme

Latvian innovation startup SIA P-Agro Minerals was the only one from Latvia to be included in the European Commission’s Women TechEU programme, where only 40 out of 1107 applicants received funding of 75,000 euros – surpassing the 4% success threshold.

Women TechEU is a two-year European Union funded initiative that supports women – founders and leaders of science-intensive companies across Europe. The aim of the programme is to create a more gender-balanced entrepreneurial ecosystem by strengthening diversity as a driving force for innovation.

“While Latvia ranks among the last places in the EU innovation index, such innovation achievements from Latvia are particularly important. They prove that technology companies developed in Latvia and based on science can successfully compete on a pan-European scale,” emphasizes the company’s co-founder and CEO Annija Emersone.

“Being accepted into this programme will provide access to top-level mentoring support, as well as the necessary 75,000-euro grant funding, so that the technology we have developed can reach the market as quickly as possible,” adds Emersone.

P-Agro Minerals is a Latvian startup founded in 2022 that is developing an innovative technology for recovering phosphorus from wastewater and returning it to circulation in agriculture. In 2024, the company attracted a pre-seed investment of 100,000 euros from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) knowledge and innovation community EIT RawMaterials.
