From this year, members of election commissions will earn 30% more

Contrary to promises not to raise salaries in the public sector, the Cabinet of Ministers (CM) at the end of last year increased the remuneration of members of municipal election commissions and polling station commissions by about 30%, according to information on the CM legislation portal. The new regulations entered into force on January 1 of this year.

Thus, if previously the hourly rate for the chair of the commission was 10 to 15 euros, the commission secretary earned from 9 to 13 euros per hour, and a commission member 8 to 10 euros per hour, then from this year the hourly rate for the chair of an election commission will be 15 to 17 euros, the election commission secretary will earn 13 to 15 euros per hour, and an election commission member 9 to 12 euros.

Job market offers indicate that in this way an election commission secretary will earn approximately as much as a certified emergency medicine physician–resuscitator in the intensive care unit at Stradiņš Hospital, while the remuneration of a commission chair is comparable, for example, to that of a lecturer for a higher mathematics study course.

All members of election commissions are also reimbursed for catering expenses during voting and vote counting – 11 euros for each day. This payment has remained at the previous level.
